Padabhayanga or foot massage is good?

Yes, padabhyanga (पादाभ्यंग) is good as it induces relaxation and relieves fatigue in foot.

Padabhyanga is an ayurvedic foot massage method using oils. It helps to improve sleep quality. In caraka samhita it is mentioned that it helps to attain drishti prasada means clarity of vision. Also balance the body’s vata in your body. It prevents grdhrasi-vata (Sciatica). Improves blood circulation also prevents kharatva (roughness), stabdhata(stiffness), rauksya(dryness) and cracks in the foot. Best to perform at night before bedtime.

How to do padabhyanga?

Select the right oil as per your dominant dosha. For example sesame oil for vata prakriti, coconut oil for pitta prakriti, jojoba oil or sesame oil for kapha prakriti.

Use lukewarm oil.

Sit comfortably on a mat with an old cloth placed under your feet.

Gently rub lukewarm oil over the heels, ankles, and toes.

Massage for about 10–15 minutes on each foot.

Wear clean cotton socks to keep your feet warm and to prevent slipping for 10-20 min.

Wash your feet with warm water. 

Relax, Refresh and Renew.

Note:

Do not perform padaabhyanga if you have fever or flu, any open wounds or injuries, deep vein thrombosis, severe varicose veins, fractures, skin conditions. During pregnancy it can be performed only under expert guidance. Also it is advised to avoid padaabhyanga during the menstrual cycle.
