Welcome to the series of Understanding Lord Shiva.
The name Shiv means “the auspicious one”. Many of us know Lord shiva as an important deity in Hinduism. Lord shiva is an absolute reality of life. He is beyond the cycle of birth and death, he is called as स्वयंभू (Swayambhu) means “self-manifested”.
Hes is अनादी (anaadi) means the one without beginning and अनंत (ananta) means the one without end, the one who is beyond the limits of time.
Lord shiva is also called a Destroyer, but what does he destroy?
Lord shiva destroys our ignorance, ego and false pride.
Shiva is considered निर्गुण (Nirguna) which means formless,he is pure awareness and consciousness.
