Shiva lingam what does it represent?

Linga in Sanskrit means “Swaroop” (स्वरूप) means “type” or “symbol” in English. Shiva lingam is the symbol of lord shiva.

The lowest part that touches the ground that is the base is known as Brahma bhaga. It represents Lord Brahma who is the Creator. The middle section is Vishnu bhaga. It represents Lord Vishnu who is the Preserver. The Lingam is placed on a circular base known as  the Yoni. It represents Goddess Shakti also known as divine feminine energy. The upper part is called Shiv-Bhaga which is an oval-shaped part. It represents Lord Shiva, it represents transformation and absolute reality.

What kind of Shiv linga can be kept at home?

Narmadeshwar or Bana Linga: These naturally formed stones found in the Narmada River are considered the most auspicious to worship at home .

Sphatik Linga: A transparent quartz Shivling is another material which is considered auspicious to worship at home. It is said that it brings peace, mental clarity, and harmony in the family.

Parad Linga: It is considered auspicious. It is said that Parad shivling can wash away severe sins.

Gold, Silver, copper and brass Linga: Ligam made with these materials are considered good to worship at home .

Parthiva Linga: These are lingam which are temporary Lingam handmade from mud. They must be immersed in flowing clean water before sunset on the same day.

What is the size of the shivling for home?

It is recommended to keep a small Shivling for home worship. It is suggested that shivling should not be larger than the size of the worshiper’s thumb. 

How to worship shivling at home?

We have to perform a sacred bath Abhishekam daily with water and bel petra.

We can also offer milk, honey, curd, sugar etc. Just offer with pure bhava .

Note:

One should never consume or drink the Abhishek water of Parad shivling.
