ऊर्ध्व हस्तासन (Urdhva Hastasana) is a basic yoga pose for beginners. In Sanskrit, Urdhva means upward, hasta means hand, and asana means pose. This asana improves posture and stretches the abdominal muscles, aiding digestion. These stretches also help relieve fatigue and stress. This gentle asana is accessible to all. Doing this in the morning can banish laziness and energize your body.
How to do it?
Stand with your feet together (or hip-width apart), engaging your thigh muscles to lift your kneecaps.
Stand straight and avoid arching your lower back.
Inhaling, sweep your arms out to the sides and reach up toward the sky. Keep your shoulders relaxed and away from your ears, without pressing them.
Look straight ahead and keep your arms straight, shoulder-width apart, with palms facing in.
Slowly tilt your head back slightly to look at your thumbs.
Exhale, lower your arms to your sides, and return to standing.
Stretch more and stress less….
